The Story
“…and when it drank the ocean it was thirsty still, and when it burnt the forest it was cold still, and when it ate its own gods it was hungry still. Only when the land was empty, the collective of men finally knew; only itself could tame it.” Fabrication 9:21
The Republic of Pumai achieved its greatness not by following the whims of the public, but by structuring its society into four castes: the Peasanting Blood, the Everguarding Bone, the Leading Hearts, and the Intellectual Mind — who study and refine the mystical art of Universal Harmony.
Children often dare to challenge the boundaries of our society — not out of spite, but curiosity. When young Bone Brons Aashvi and Duru Unba discover a book on Universal Harmony, they cannot resist studying the forbidden art, even if it means hiding it from their father, who struggles to balance his duties to his family and his caste.
Soon, the family will pay the price for the children's thirst for knowledge.
The Creators
Daniel Sayeg
Daniel Sayeg is a game designer by day and a graphic novelist by night. He’s into cartoons, punk music, and lately making tortellini from scratch.
He’s carried the world of The Dissonant in his head for years, weaving its ideas into short stories and D&D campaigns. The story and its characters draw from his political beliefs, personal struggles, and the people in his life.
Mauricio Gonzalez
Mauricio Gonzalez is a freelance artist with a passion for storytelling and world building. He runs on caffeine, and if he’s not holding a pencil, he is playing with his dogs or covered in clay.
He has been visually and narratively developing worlds ever since he could hold a pencil — The Dissonant is neither his first nor last.
We met as foreign art students at École Émile Cohl in Lyon, France. Though neither of us finished our art degree, we stayed in touch, collaborating on comics and game jams. The Dissonant is our most ambitious project yet.

Supporting the project
The creators of The Dissonant work on this project alongside their full-time jobs. We’re 100% human, and we make this comic for you. The biggest support you can give us is helping it grow — share The Dissonant with your nerdy friends, both in the material world and online.
If you enjoyed reading, please consider joining our Patreon. We’d love to make The Dissonant our full-time job and release more pages each week. If you’re able to help, even a few dollars a month brings us one step closer to that goal.
